Thyroid

Hyperthyroidism and Hypothyroidism are both conditions that effect the thyroid. Hyperthyroidism is when the thyroid produces too much hormone, and hypothyroidism occurs when the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone. Both conditions can effect your body’s normal functions.

The thyroid gland can also develop nodules, which in some cases can be cancerous.

Surgery may be needed to treat some of these conditions. It may be used to treat people that do not respond well to medications. Surgery to remove the thyroid gland is called thyroidectomy. Depending on the situation, part of or the entire gland may be removed.

Parathyroid

Hyperparathyroidism is a condition that results when the parathyroid glands produce excessive amounts of hormones. Hyperparathyroidism may or may not produce symptoms. The condition is treated with medications or surgery. The parathyroid glands may be removed with traditional open surgery or minimally invasive parathyroidectomy (MIP).

Here at Central Surgical Associates, we specialize in treating abnormalities of the thyroid and parathyroid glands. Our surgeons stay up-to-date and educated on the latest treatments and procedures. It’s part of our mission to be the best at what we do.
