Central Surgical Associates Logo

People suffer from various types of hernias, and here at Central Surgical we are trained and equipped to deal with them all. Hernias occur when some part of an organ comes through the wall of the cavity that normally contains it, cutting off part of that organ as the rift in the cavity wall heals. Our surgeons are up-to-date on the latest procedures and technologies, which allows them to treat you in the best manner possible. We also understand how to help you overcome your anxiety and feel more at ease with surgical treatment of your hernia.

Inguinal Hernia

An inguinal hernia occurs when part of the intestines protrudes through the inguinal canal. They are very common, and inguinal hernia repair is one of the most frequently performed of all surgical procedures.

Umbilical Hernia

An umbilical hernia is a congenital defect, occurring when there is a hernia present at the site of the umbilical cord, the navel. These often correct of their own accord, but some to require surgical intervention to stop the strangulation of the hernia.

Incisional Hernia

Incisional hernias are caused by some part of the intestine or organs protruding through surgical incisions that have not fully healed. These can often be frustrating to deal with, but here at Central Surgical we have the experience to treat the various types of incisional hernias.

Hiatal Hernia

A hiatal hernia occurs when part of the stomach protrudes through the diaphragm, the muscle inside of the chest wall. Hiatal hernia repair surgery is also called anti-reflux surgery or fundoplication. It is used to correct a defect in the diaphragm. The surgery may be performed with open surgery or laparoscopic “keyhole” or “endoscopic” surgery. Another procedure, endoluminal fundoplication uses an endoscope to place small clips on the inside of the esophagus to help prevent reflux.
